REVITALIZATION
"The Heart of Belen" Revitalization Project focuses on the historical district of Belen, a city filled with history and tradition. Covering about a quarter mile, the Heart of Belen extends from Baca Avenue to Dalies Avenue and from the historic Harvey House to Belen’s Municipal Building on Main Street. The target street for revitalization is Becker Avenue.
Through a grant from the New Mexico Rural Development Response Council (NMRDRC), Belen’s Economic Development Corporation (EDC) secured The Idea Group of Santa Fe, LLC, to develop the strategic plan to successfully complete and market the Heart of Belen.
Included in the plan is a vision for the 1920s City Hall located on 5th and Becker Avenue and the train station at the end of Becker, which serve as anchor points for the project.
Revitalization of historic Old City Hall and the train station will set the tone for the project drawing residents and visitors alike to the downtown area, generating increased trade and a more vibrant and attractive community. A healthy mix of retail establishments, restaurants, quiet gathering places and the paseo all will add to the dynamic qualities and emotional pull of the place and keep people in the area longer than would be the case in typical downtowns.
